Joseph Mayon, a Louisiana native, grew up in his mother’s dance studio, was tossed onto the big stage at age 4, and never left! His parents enrolled him in voice lessons at age 10, and began performing in community theater. After graduating from Interlochen Arts Academy in 1998, Joseph Mayon began teaching voice in his mother's performing arts studio. While attending the University of Denver, Mayon taught an after school music program teaching middle school students how to read and understand music. In 2003 Mayon began a musical theater career and performed in many National Tours and Off-Broadway. While performing in Wickenburg, AZ, the director of the Dell E Webb Center of the Performing Arts was so impressed by Mayon's performance that she asked him to be the voice instructor and co-conductor for their summer musical theater program, Camp Imagination. Mayon accepted and the students performed Disney's Aladdin Jr with great success. From 2012-2015 Mayon was the voice instructor, director, and conductor for the Beacon Program on Roosevelt Island at PSIS 217 in NYC. The Beacon Programs are school based community centers serving children ages six and up, and adults. In the spring of 2017 Mayon began the after school Musical Theater Program hosted by St. John the Apostle School producing Disney’s The Lion King KIDS. The Mayon School of Performing Arts was then born.
Joseph Mayon, Spinto Tenor - has performed in opera, concerts, oratorios, recitals, and musical theater internationally and throughout the United States. Mayon attended the world renowned Interlochen Arts Academy in MI, and furthered his studies at Louisiana State University, University of Denver, and Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music. Mayon has studied voice with Craig Sirianni, Francisco Casanova, David Jones, Jack Li Vigni, Catherine Kasch, Terry Patrick-Harris, Ronald Gentry, Nicole Philibosian, and Joseph Harris. Mayon has performed with companies such as Rome Festival Opera, Hudson Opera Theater, New York Opera Forum, West Side Opera, Underworld Opera, SingThrough Central, Ridgewood G&S Opera, and Vera Musica. Mayon made his Carnegie Hall debut as Pollione in NORMA with Harmony Project NYC. Roles include Roberto Devereux (ROBERTO DEVEREUX), Faust (FAUST), Idomeneo (IDOMENEO), Leicester (MARIA STUARDA), Percy (ANNA BOLENA), Almaviva (BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA), Elvino (LA SONNAMBULA), Tamino (DIE ZAUBERFLÜTE), Carlo (GIOVANNA D'ARCO), Gennaro (LUCREZIA BORGIA), Nemorino (L'ELISIR D'AMORE), Tebaldo (I CAPULETI E I MONTECCHI), Fernando (LA FAVORITE), Pollione (NORMA), Fenton (FALSTAFF), and Loge (DAS RHEINGOLD). and Frederic (PIRATES OF PENZANCE). Mayon has participated in the prestigious workshop series of LA TRAVIATA as Alfredo given by Maestro Francisco Casanova. Mayon also performed in Thomas Z. Sheperd's world premier adaption of Gilbert & Sullivan's THESPIS as Sparkeon with The Light Opera Company of Long Island. Upcoming performances: Don Jose (CARMEN), and Don Carlos (DON CARLOS). Mayon is founder of THE MAYON SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS LLC, teaching musical theater after school programs, youth choir, and has a private voice and piano studio. Mayon is currently the music and choral director at St. John the Apostle School in Clark, NJ.
